Jamila Jones, PhD
 Principal
Jamila Jones has eight years experience as an Islamic school principal.  She was principal of Genesee Academy in Swartz Creek, Michigan from 1996-1999 and completed a second tenure there from 2003 - 2006.    She was principal of the Greater Lansing Islamic School during the second term of the 1999/2000 school year.  She was principal for close to two years. She has a doctorate in linguistics and was assistant professor of ESL at Ball State University in Indiana for five years before returning to Michigan. Dr. Jones has extensive experience in Islamic education both abroad and in the United States.

Masarat Sayeed Early Pre-Kindergarten
Homeroom Teacher
Masarat has a Bachelor degree in Commerce from Osmania University and is certified as a Montessori teacher by the American Montessori Society to teach ages 3 through 6. The Early Pre-K program at GLIS has been commissioned  in response to a growing need from the community to provide this service.

Zainab Ali Pre-Kindergarten
Homeroom Teacher
Zainab Ali joined GLIS as a Pre-K teacher. She is certified as a Montessori teacher by the American Montessori Society to teach ages 2 ½ through 6. The Pre-K program at GLIS is much sought after and admission to this class fills up quickly which is mainly due to the high quality of education imparted by Zainab Ali.

Hanaa Gomma Kindergarten
Homeroom Teacher
Hanaa Gomma has a Ph. D. in  School Psychology from Michigan State University and has several years of experience as a School Psychologist. 
Prior to arriving in Lansing, Hanaa Home schooled her children and she brings in years of experience gained from this.

Mellisa Reed 1st Grade Homeroom Teacher
3rd grade Language Arts
Mellisa Reed is a Michigan certified teacher who graduated from Olivet College. Her major was History and minor was Language Arts. Mellisa has been with GLIS for several years now and was also named teacher of the year during her first year at GLIS. She will teach Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science to the 1st grade class as well as Language Arts to the 3rd grade.


Jamie Torrey 2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher
6th, 7th and 8th Science
A graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, Jamie Torrey has now been with GLIS for several years. She is a Certified teacher for elementary grades and also middle school Mathematics. She believes that “Every child deserves an education and the opportunity to be successful in life”. She will teach Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science to the 2nd class as well as Science to the 6th, 7th and 8th Graders.

Samantha Davis
3rd Grade Homeroom Teacher
6th, 7th and 8th Math. 
A graduate of Central Michigan University,  Samantha Davis  she began her career at GLIS in 2010. Samantha is  Certified in Elementary Education, K-5, with a major in Mathematics K-8 and Minors in Early Childhood Development (and Reading at the Elementary Grades. She will teach Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science to the 3rd grade class as well as Math to the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Graders. She will also teach 5th grade science.


Karen Elsadek 4th Grade Homeroom Teacher
7th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher.

Karen Elsadek had joined the school as a teacher for the 1st/2nd class as well as Math teacher for the 5th/6th and 7th/8th classes. Prior to that, Karen had 18 years of experience as a certified teacher in Vermont, combining teaching and administrative experiences in a one-room school covering K to 8th grades. She has a masters Degree in education at the Michigan State University.
Karen Elsadek has served GLIS remarkably in the capacity of a Teacher, a part time and Full Time Principal for few years.

Nicole Mitchell 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher
5th, 6th Language Arts
Nicole Mitchell has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Michigan State University and a minors in English and Communication. Mrs. Mitchell is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts degree in Curriculum. Mrs. Mitchell has Elementary Education Certification and has taught Grades 2,3 and 4 for over 5 years in Public Schools in Maryland.

Feryal Al-Qaidi
Teacher - Pre K Islamic Studies and Quran
Quran, Arabic teacher for higher grades
Feryal Al-Qaidi has been with GLIS for several years now. Feryal is a very dedicated and caring person. Feryal is a full time Arabic teacher. Feryal also teaches Islamic studies and Quran to the Pre K class.






Huma Jeddy Office Secretary
Huma has served GLIS for many years now   as an Office secretary.
Feel free to reach out to her not only for any administrative questions, but also to volunteer with the PTO and in other school activities.


Lul Hassan Administrative Assistant 
Lul has been with the school form the beginning as a volunteer, parent, part-time aide, and for several years now, she has been serving as a full-time secretary. Many people in the community know her as a caring, enthusiastic, and initiative individual who has helped the community in many areas.



Mirvat Aly Kindergarten Aide,  Quran Teacher
Mirvat had been a staff member of the school when it first opened way back in 1996. She taught Preschool, Arabic, and was a teacher’s aide. Mirvat is a very kind and caring person who we are pleased to have working with our students.



Ourida Ouldbouzian Teacher - Islamic Studies and Quran Teacher
Ourida (Warda) has now been teaching at GLIS for several years. She will teach Islamic Studies to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd  and 4th classes along with Quran. 



Rabiah Amatullah- Samad Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Aide
 



Raghda Khatib 7th and 8th grade
Home room Teacher
Teacher - Arabic, Islamic Studies, Qur'an
Trained as a medical doctor, Raghda Khatib is very knowledgeable in Islam and Arabic, including a certificate of Tajweed of Qur'an. Prior to joining the Islamic School, Raghda has several years of experience of teaching in Sunday school. Raghda will teach Islamic studies for  5th, 6th, 7th and 8th classes and Arabic for higher level. She will also teach Quran for upper grade.



Rania Aborashed 4th Grade Arabic

and Qur'an Teacher
Rania Aborashed has taught several classes in past at GLIS. She is 4th Grade Arabic teacher and Qur'an Teachers. 
Rania has studied several courses in child development. Rania has served as a Girls Scout and brings years of experience as a Girls youth leader in our community. 
She is also our volunteer librarian and we appreciate her for the time and effort.


Sawsan Mahmoud
 5th grade- Home room teacher,
Qur'an Teacher higher Grades
and Arabic teacher for 5th grade
Sawsan Mahmoud is the Arabic and Quran teacher for upper grades . Students love her for kindness and Sawsan is always willing to help.
Tariq Sumbal5th , 6th, 7th & 8th grade 
 Social Studies Teacher

Tariq Sumbal was born and raised in the Lansing area. He  completed his Bachelors of Science degree in zoology from Michigan State University. He also completed his Masters in Public Administration from Western Michigan University this year. He has many years of experience in the education field. We are very excited to have Mr. Sumbal join our GLIS family.
